Granada lies under the snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada
The former Moorish capital, Granada, straddles the confluences of the Daro and Genil rivers. It has a wealth of medieval and renaissance treasures, and above all the magical Alhambra Palace. History has bestowed it with a unique artistic grandeur embracing Moorish and Christian treasures. As the last Moorish capital on the Iberian peninsula, it also holds great symbolic value and is a wonderful reminder that the world owes a great debt of gratitude to Spain’s former occupants, the Moors
The city has been shaped by the hills, where the old districts in the Albaycin and the Alhambra were founded, with steep, narrow streets, beautiful nooks and crannies, and marvellous views across the city and to the mountains beyond. The new part of the city is situated on the plain, criss-crossed by the Gran Via de Colon and Calle de los Reyes Catolicos, and where the busy narrow medieval streets cluster around the Cathedral.
If you went to see only one place during your stay here, it has to be the magical Alhambra Palace in Granada, only 40 minutes from Los Piedaos. It's worth getting your tickets in advance because there can be long queues and it may even be impossible to get a ticket if you just turn up on the day. Click here for all the information that you will need to buy tickets in advance.
The city has a world-class Granada Symphony Orchestra but you need to book in advance for their concerts. (Their website is in Spanish).
Granada is only 40 minutes away from Los Piedaos, but you can drive to Cordoba and back in a day and get a taste of this wonderful city. We can recommend Bodegas Campos, a restaurant that in itself is worth the drive! Book a table +(34) 957-497-643.
Another amazing city is Seville. About 3 1/2 hours drive from Los Piedaos, it deserves at least an overnight stay.
Many guests organise mid-week flights and spend a few days in Cordoba and Sevilla either side of their stay at Los Piedaos.
